Attorney General Carr Earns Georgia Chamber of Commerce Endorsement

August 21, 2018

MACON, Ga. – Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr today thanked the Georgia Chamber of Commerce for its endorsement of his candidacy in the 2018 November general election. The Chamber announced the endorsement this morning, ahead of the chamber’s 2018 Congressional Luncheon in Macon, Ga.

As the former Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Carr is one of the only Attorneys General in the country who has experience in working directly with the business community to bring jobs to his state.

“During the three years I was Commissioner of the Department of Economic Development, I was proud to work with our partners from across the state in creating an environment that helps companies grow and succeed while providing meaningful employment for so many Georgians. The Georgia Chamber of Commerce has been a partner and advocate for Georgia businesses and employees as we’ve worked to keep our state number one in the nation in which to do business,” said Carr. “As Attorney General, I want to continue to build on this momentum. I look forward to continuing to be a partner in our state’s growth and economic prosperity for years to come, and I appreciate the Georgia Chamber’s support as I continue that work.”

“I’ve had the honor of working with Attorney General Chris Carr on the issues that matter most to Georgians,” said Georgia Chamber President and CEO Chris Clark.  “We’ve traveled the world promoting Georgia businesses and farmers, their products and goods. As Attorney General, in addition to fighting the opioid crisis, he’s taking on gangs and the problems they create like human and drug trafficking. He’s been on the front lines of what matters for quality job growth and quality of life, and the business community is proud to stand with him today.”

As Carr continues his efforts as Attorney General to bolster the economic success Georgia has seen over the past six years with a consistent, predictable and reliable legal environment, he is committed to protecting consumers from criminals who engage in illegal and harmful practices – including cyber crime – and has delivered consequences for their actions.

Under Carr’s leadership as Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development from 2013 to 2016, Georgia was named the number one state in the country in which to do business every year. The department helped facilitate 1,069 projects across the state that represented approximately $14.4 billion in investment and the creation of more than 84,000 jobs. In 2015, the department was recognized as the top economic development agency in the country.

Georgia Chamber of Commerce Political Affairs Council Chairman Ben J. Tarbutton, III, in the chamber’s official endorsement added, “The administration and operation of these governmental agencies play a vital role in advancing economic opportunities, and it is critical that we elect pro-business officials who are dedicated to protecting and promoting sound policy.”

Carr has previously announced endorsements from Georgia Congressional leaders, the majority of the General Assembly and Governor Nathan Deal. In April, Carr announced endorsements by more than 83 leaders in Georgia’s law enforcement community, including from more than 26 District Attorneys and Sheriffs in 57 counties. In March, Carr announced endorsements from a Statewide Grassroots Leadership Team of more than 700 Georgians representing all 159 counties.
