Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr made a campaign stop in Gainesville Wednesday, and got a high-profile endorsement as he seeks the office of Georgia Governor.

Carr is running as a Republican for the seat currently held by fellow Republican Brian Kemp. During Wednesday’s visit to Gainesville, Carr received an endorsement from Gainesville native and former Republican Governor Nathan Deal.

Deal praised Carr, calling him the right fit for the job.

“I want to assure you of several things. One is, Chris Carr is competent. He is capable of being a very good governor,” Deal said. “Most importantly of all, he’s a good man. A good person. Good people make good decisions.”

Carr thanked Deal for his endorsement.

“I’m grateful to have earned the support of my friend and mentor, Governor Nathan Deal, one of Georgia’s greatest Governors,” Carr said in a statement. “He led out state with steady, conservative leadership, and his confidence in me means a lot.”

The Gainesville stop was one of several made by Carr in Northeast Georgia in recent days, as he also visited Dahlonega, Dawsonville and Jefferson. Carr is running in a crowded Republican field, with the primary set for May 19.
